Mary Help of Christians Parish was proclaimed parish in the year 1960 by Bishop Manuel Mascariñas , Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran and Rev. Fr. Gorgonio Pueblos was the first parish priest installed. The parish patron saint was San Roque and celebrated the annual fiesta in May 25. During that time the church was located at the lower part of Mocpoc Norte (school site now). The Centro Catolico administered the parish with the late Mauricio L. Roslinda as the first president. The parish is composed of eight barangays of Sandingan and five barangays of Cabilao Island (Cabilao island was separated on September 14, 1990). In 1961, a new church(building) was erected thru the efforts of volunteerism and donations. At that time also, a new patron saint was honored the “ Maria Auxilium Cristianorum” and moved our annual fiesta in May 24 (which we are celebrating now). The Parish compound is located in a one hectare lot in barangay Mocpoc Norte, Loon, Bohol. The compound houses the parish church and convent which was erected in 1961 and renovated in 1991 and 2001. The pastoral center and dormitory was erected in 2001 with funding grant from foreign religious foundations. Later in 2008 the church stairs, baptistry and perimeter fenced was renovated and constructed respectively with the assistance of foreign foundations and parishioners. The parish cemetery is located in barangay Sondol in the upper part of the island.
