It’s a fun-filled summer for Loon’s budding artists as the Center for Developments in Culture, Heritage and the Arts (Charts) in coordination with the Loon Amateur Artists (LAMA), announced the opening of Summer Arts Workshop on April 20, 2009.
This month-long workshop, programmed to end on May 20, 2009, will be held at the CHARTS Building located in barangay Moto Sur.
Created through the initiative of dynamic Loon Mayor Lloyd Peter M. Lopez, MD, who is also the chairman of the Loon Culture, Heritage and the Arts Council, the summer workshop is open to everyone, regardless of age, who has an inclination in the arts.
Well-known local artists Carlito Masalta, a product of U.P. Fine Arts and Rene Eune P. Ponte, I.C.S. Commercial Arts, are going to handle the workshop classes Mondays through Fridays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Participants must equip themselves with art supplies and media – charcoal pencils, watercolor, chalk or oil pastel, oil or acrylic paints, paper, and other art paraphernalia. They are advised, however, to wait for what type and kind of medium/media the facilitators would advise them to secure. This shall be based on what particular medium is best fitted for the participant to major in as can be seen from their progress.
Full-fledged LAMÂ members and fellow artists Ericson Masas and Lemuel Cornito are also expected to participate from time to time and sit in as assisting facilitators.
Although registration is pegged at P2,000.00 per participant, there is an added bonus for the first 30 students to enroll who will pay only P500.00. The LGU, through CHARTS under the Office of the Mayor, shall take care of the remaining P1,500.00 balance as counterpart.
Meanwhile, the workshop in photo silkscreen printing (specifically for T-Shirts and other fabrics) deals with photo silkscreen processing for one-color and color separation (CMYK) prints. This will be handled by Rene Eune Ponte for three sessions only – Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM also at the CHARTS Building. This workshop is available for all summer weekends starting April 20 up to May 31, 2009.
Registration in the photo silkscreen printing is P2,000 per student. This is inclusive of a Beginner’s Kit containing stretched silk screen, squeeze, electric dryer, chemicals, additives and paints. A ten percent (10%) discount is given for the first 25 registrants.
What makes this workshop especially worthwhile is that the participant can start his/her own shirt printing business right after completing the lessons. Talk of earning extra income during free time or gaining a livelihood that can support a family!
Registration is now accepted at Charts through Rene Eune P. Ponte, Charts/ Creative Industries Development Officer.
