Today, October 15, 2025, we pause in solemn remembrance of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck the Province of Bohol twelve years ago. The tragedy that unfolded on October 15, 2013 left an indelible mark on our history—taking lives, displacing families, and reducing homes, churches, and heritage sites to rubble. Yet, from the ruins of devastation rose a story of strength, compassion, and collective resilience that continues to inspire generations of Boholanos and Loonanons alike.
In the years that followed, Bohol’s journey of recovery evolved into a pursuit of deeper understanding and harmony with nature. What once was a painful reminder of destruction has now become a foundation for progress—paving the way toward its recognition as the first UNESCO Global Geopark in the Philippines. This milestone honors not only the island’s geological significance but also the spirit of its people who learned to coexist with the forces of the Earth through education, awareness, and preparedness.
Let us bow our heads in prayer:
“Lord Almighty, we lift up in remembrance the souls who perished during the 2013 earthquake. Grant eternal rest to those we lost and continued strength to those who survived. May our hearts remain steadfast in faith, our hands united in service, and our communities resilient in the face of every trial. Bless Bohol and all her people with safety, wisdom, and lasting peace.”
As we commemorate this day, may we continue to uphold the lessons of the past—to build safer communities, nurture our environment, and remain vigilant yet hopeful in our shared journey toward resilience and renewal.
