On March 4, 2026 at 1:30 PM, the Local Government Unit of Loon (LGU-Loon) convened a collaborative meeting at the Quality Management System (QMS) Office together with representatives from BISU–Candijay College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and the Provincial Government of Bohol through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) and BIUGGP representatives to discuss initiatives aimed at protecting and sustainably managing Loon’s valuable coastal resources.
The meeting highlighted the presentation and discussion of the draft Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Participatory Coastal Resource Assessment (PCRA). This initiative will strengthen collaboration among partner institutions in conducting dive training and biodiversity surveys across the five Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in District 1 of Loon, a significant step in ensuring science-based conservation and sustainable marine management.
During the dialogue, participants also carefully mapped out a timeline of activities, taking into consideration the respective schedules of BISU-Candijay and LGU-Loon, including institutional audits and the revalidation of the BIUGGP designation. Beyond ecological assessment, the partnership also underscored the importance of community engagement, with plans to develop capacity-building and livelihood training programs that will empower local residents with sustainable income opportunities beyond traditional fishing while promoting responsible eco-tourism in the municipality.
The LGU-Loon expresses its sincere appreciation to the representatives from the Provincial Government and the BISU-Candijay team for their valued presence and continued partnership. The municipality likewise extends its gratitude to Municipal Mayor Hon. Pedro M. Literatus Jr. for his steadfast support of environmental initiatives, and to Municipal Administrator Dr. Lloyd Peter M. Lopez for effectively facilitating the productive discussion.
This collaboration marks another meaningful step toward strengthening coastal governance and environmental stewardship, ensuring that Loon’s rich marine ecosystems are preserved and responsibly managed for the benefit of present and future generations.
