Today, June 12, 2026, the Municipality of Loon proudly joined the nation in commemorating the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence through a solemn and meaningful observance held at the Rizal Monument, Plaza Rizal, Moto Norte, Loon, Bohol. Anchored on this year’s theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”, the program served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of our forefathers, the value of the freedoms we enjoy today, and our collective responsibility in shaping a brighter future for the next generation.
The commemoration commenced with an Ecumenical Prayer, followed by the Entrance of Colors by the Loon Philippine National Police and the Singing of the National Anthem and other patriotic hymns. These ceremonial rites set a reflective and patriotic atmosphere, allowing participants to honor the courage, heroism, and unwavering commitment of the Filipino people in securing the nation’s independence.
In his Welcome Address, Municipal Mayor Hon. Cesar Tomas M. Lopez, M.D. emphasized that Independence Day is not merely a celebration of a historic event but a continuing call for every Filipino to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, integrity, and responsible citizenship. He highlighted that the freedom won by our heroes carries with it the responsibility to contribute positively to society, strengthen democratic institutions, and work collectively toward sustainable development and inclusive progress.
Mayor Lopez further underscored his advocacy of empowering communities through good governance, education, health, agriculture, and youth development, stressing that true freedom is realized when citizens are given opportunities to improve their quality of life and actively participate in nation-building. He encouraged Loonanons to honor the legacy of the nation’s heroes by becoming agents of positive change in their respective communities and by preserving the values that define the Filipino identity.
Adding vibrancy and cultural pride to the celebration were the outstanding performances of Loon’s homegrown talents. The audience witnessed the captivating Opening Cultural Performance of the Lumad Napoanon, which showcased the rich heritage, traditions, and artistic expressions deeply rooted in the municipality’s cultural identity. This was followed by a remarkable performance from the UB-LI Rondalla, whose music beautifully reflected Filipino artistry and patriotism. These presentations highlighted the richness of Loonanon culture and demonstrated how local traditions continue to thrive as an integral part of our shared history and identity.
The ceremonial offering of flowers and wreaths further symbolized the community’s gratitude and respect for the heroes whose sacrifices paved the way for the freedoms enjoyed by Filipinos today. Through this act of remembrance, participants reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the ideals of liberty, democracy, and national unity.
In his Closing Remarks, Vice Mayor Pedro M. Literatus, Jr. reminded everyone that the commemoration of Independence Day should inspire Filipinos not only to remember the past but also to actively contribute to the nation’s future. He emphasized that the lessons of history must guide present actions and decisions, encouraging citizens to remain united in addressing contemporary challenges while safeguarding the freedoms earned through sacrifice. His message reinforced the significance of collective responsibility, civic engagement, and continued dedication to building a stronger and more resilient nation.
The program, hosted by Hon. Mariel L. Juntilla, concluded with a renewed sense of patriotism and appreciation for the nation’s history, as well as pride in the talents, culture, and enduring spirit of the people of Loon.
