In a significant move toward environmental sustainability, Mayor Pedro “Dodong” M. Literatus Jr. has officially initiated a research and extension collaboration with the Cebu Technological University (CTU) – Main Campus, specifically through its College of Arts and Sciences, to strengthen the conservation efforts for the Municipality of Loon’s marine ecosystems and geopark sites.

Recognizing that visionary leadership is the backbone of ecological programs, Mayor Literatus Jr. welcomed the CTU team last Wednesday to lay the groundwork for a partnership that integrates scientific research with active community participation. This initiative is designed to ensure that Loon’s natural wonders are not only preserved but managed sustainably with the help of local stakeholders.
The LGU of Loon proudly acknowledges the expertise of our guests from CTU who are helping drive this mission:
- Ms. Lea Colita, Ph.D (candidate)
- Dr. Raamah Rosales
- Ms. Amor V. Cagay, Research Assistant
- Alfie P. Fernandez, Dive Instructor and Seaknights Secretary
“Local government support is critical in all ecological conservation programs,” the visiting team noted, praising the municipality for its proactive stance. Under this collaboration, the LGU and CTU aim to foster a sense of shared stewardship, protecting the biodiversity and geological heritage that define the unique identity of our town.
With a commitment to “God and country,” the Municipality of Loon continues to lead the way in environmental advocacy, ensuring a greener and more resilient future for every Loonanon.
