Loon Celebrates 127th Philippine Independence Day

Loon, Bohol – June 12, 2025

In a spirited start to the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration, the Municipality of Loon united residents in an early morning Fun Walk that began at exactly 6:00 a.m., tracing a meaningful route through some of the town’s most iconic and historic landmarks.

Participants gathered at the Loon Municipal Hall, setting off toward Napo, the town’s nucleus community, and onward to Inang-angan, a historic stairway that forms part of the Loon Church Complex—designated as a National Cultural Treasure in 2010 by the National Museum of the Philippines.

The walk culminated at the Loon Public Plaza (circa 1929), a restored cultural site hailed as Bohol’s most beautiful Rizal monument. This plaza, rebuilt after being heavily damaged in the 2013 earthquake, features a canopied life-size statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal topped with a Statue of Liberty, as well as a symbolic fountain illustrating the origin of the town’s name—”Tubig nga naglo-on.”

Immediately following the walk was a Flag Raising Ceremony, where the national anthem echoed through the plaza, accompanied by patriotic pledges and reflections. The program continued with a short commemorative gathering at the Loon Town Square, paying tribute to the nation’s history and honoring the spirit of freedom.

To wrap up the morning festivities, the Sangguniang Kabataan, led by SK Loon and SK Bohol Federation President Lawrence Ancla, hosted a lively Zumba session—adding a fun, energetic twist to the celebration while promoting health and wellness among participants of all ages.

Daghang salamat to everyone who took part in this memorable event that celebrated not only the nation’s independence, but also the unity, culture, and vibrant community spirit of Loon.

Together, We are making Loon Madanihon rise and shine… from Local to Global!
