Today, 27 September 2023 is World Tourism Day. On this day we also observe the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Moalong, a historic event during the Second World War when more than 60 members of the Japanese imperial forces were killed on the banks of Moalong River by Filipino soldiers and guerrillas led by Captain Francisco Salazar. Today’s commemorative rites also highlight the 23rd Annual Municipal Day of Prayer for World Peace. These events will be held at the Loon Peace Park, which is currently being developed into a tourist destination and a possible declaration by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as a national historical landmark.
